The Kent Island Fisherman’s Flea Market will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 26 and 27 at the Kent Island American Legion Post 278, located at 800 Romancoke Road in Stevensville. There will be plenty of vendors on hand selling rods, reels, lures, boating supplies, clothing, as well as charter outfits and even locals who are clearing space out of their garages. It’s one of those shows that you never know exactly what treasures you will find. Hard Head Custom Baits will be there this year selling their custom hand-made lures. They’ve been in business for five years now and are owned and operated right here in Southern Maryland. The company is a family affair, run by a veteran of the U.S. Navy, his wife and their two teenaged sons. Some of their best-selling products include skirted umbrellas, tandems, bomber trolling spoons, jig heads, custom big baits, popping corks (if you haven’t fished with a popping cork, you’re missing out on a great experience) and custom shad bodies in 6- and 9-inch sizes. They also sell skirted umbrellas in a bag, which are used to make old umbrellas new again. HHCB uses quality one-piece skirts that don’t require any tying or rubber bands, and they resist jellyfish slime and mud and don’t require any brushing. If you can’t make it to Kent Island that weekend, you can still shop online at www.hardheadcustombaits.com. The Kent Island flea market draws a good crowd and is the perfect way to gear up for another year of fishing. Admission to the show is $3 per adult, while children 16 and younger are free. Food and drink will be available for purchase and there’s free on-site parking.
