Let's face it. Fishing is slow to non-existent in the winter. How do you handle it? Do you go out anyway? Buy new gear? Research?
Personally, I'm gearing up. After surf fishing 1-2 times a year for the past 5 years, I've decided I need to get out more. Partially because I took my 4 year old son out late last year, and he caught his first fish - a small pompano. This wasn't a "I'll cast, set the hook, and let him reel it in" sort of thing - he did everything but baiting the hook himself, with his own 5' spinning rod.
So far, I've picked up: 1. St. Croix Mojo Inshore 7'6" Heavy (3/4-2 oz) rod 2. Penn Spinfisher VI 4500LL 3. Penn Spinfisher V 6500LL
Still trying to decide on a surf rod, and then there's all the "support" gear - rigs (I'll be tying my own), lures, etc.
